Navigating the world of at home skin care is a minefield.
With so many new devices and products around, it is hard to know where to begin, and then of course there is the cost to factor in.
Whether you’re yearning for a full face sculpt or prefer to focus on key areas like your cheeks, eyes or jaw line, we have some face workout tips that can do the trick whilst at home.
These days we seem to all be after a natural beauty look, as we all embark on getting to know our bare faces, skin-imalism has emerged as the greatest beauty trend of all.
Going forward we want to look barefaced, but better.
It’s not that we no longer want enhanced cheekbones, in fact “Facial Contouring” searches have gone up by 150%, according to Bobbi Brown.
To fill the void of ‘traditional’ sculpt and contouring using makeup, face training is the subtle cult that arises to keep you toned and fresh-face allowing you to maintain definition with or without makeup.
Focusing more on the ideology of a workout rather than a facial, brand FaceGym have taken age-old techniques and formulated moves that lift and contour your face – Almost sounds like a magic trick, but David Blaine is nowhere in sight.
Entrepreneur founder Inge Theron of the gym for your face brand, has done us all a solid.
Performing high intensity but non-invasive methods can help your skin care products work for your skin and give you extra definition, serving that envied glow we see on all our favorite models and influencers.
Regular facial muscle manipulation on your face improves the blood flow and supplies your skin cells with nutrients, leading to a product of collagen which our skin requires to prevent or reduce the formation of wrinkles.
Benefits Of Facial Exercises

2. Firms and tightens the skin
3. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles
4. Increases blood circulation

Tips For Doing Facial Exercises The Right Way
1. Performing facial exercises lying down is the most effective – book that 1-2-1 session with your personal face trainer!
2. Ensure your hands are clean before touching your face.
3. Do your fitness routine at the same time of the day if you can.
4. Combine facial exercises with cardiovascular exercises to give your complexion the best possible boost.
If you are seeking quick results, then a 20 minutes training performance is all you need for at least 3-5 times a week.
Here are some exercises for your face to consider…
3 Simple Face Tightening Exercises
Say Cheese: Smile as wide as you can (without wrinkling your nose or grimacing) and press your fingertips into the folds of the crease of your mouth, and gently hook as you pull them out.
Hold for at least ten seconds, then release.
Corrugator Lift: Create a claw with your index finger, place under your brows, and very gently apply pressure inwards and pull upwards.
You are going to try and blink 20 times.
You will feel the pressure in the muscles above and below your eye.
You can do this for each eye one at a time, and then both together.
Jawline Sweep: Using two fingers, hold your skin in the middle of your chin, using your other hand formed into a claw and tuck the side of your jaw between your clawed fingers and firmly sweep from the middle to the nape of your ear.
Do this for either side of your face, 5 times.
You can follow the journey of FaceGym trainers who can walk you through step by step on what movements to incorporate into your daily face workout, which is highly recommended not only by Vogue, but some of your favourite celebs.
Just like that, you will never have to give an excuse for skipping gym again.
Do you ever get jealous about two things men have that you don’t?
Their lashes are one of them, they are undeserving of such a treat let alone their sky high cheekbones, what is up with that!
But you too can get a sharper definition on your cheekbones that can cut through any awkward conversations.
There are two exercises believed to have success on tightening the facial skin (facelifts) – they are the cheek lifter and the happy cheeks sculpting exercises.
The Cheek Lifter
1. Form an “O” with your mouth
2. Pull your top lip over your upper teeth
3. To lift your cheek muscles – smile
4. Firmly place your fingers on the top of each cheek to make them tight
5. Keeping your fingers in place, relax your muscles
6. Repeat by lowering and lifting your cheek muscles for about 60 seconds
Happy Cheeks
1. Purse your lips
2. Smile while keeping your lips pressed together
3. Put your fingers on the corners of your mouth and slide them up to the top of your cheeks
4. Hold this position for 20 seconds
5. Repeat for about 60 seconds
Home Remedies
Coconut Oil
Organic coconut oil has an antioxidant that helps eliminate radicals that damage tissues, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.
Uh Uh Honey (that was a Yeezy reference for those wondering)
Honey is an ingredient that can be used to treat almost any skin problem.
Its antioxidant properties help rejuvenate the skin and make it appear tighter.
Supplemented Aloe Vera
Aloe vera gel has shown that it minimises wrinkles and elasticity by stimulating collagen production.
This helps improve the overall texture and appearance of your skin.
Toning is best recommended for balancing your skin – this is a great skincare step to incorporate into any skin care regime.
Toning restores the pH balance in your skin and makes your skin ready for other skincare products as well as makeup.
The Do’s And Don’t of Skincare
Do eat a balanced diet (what you eat reflects in the pores).
Do get some rest (we don’t call her sleeping beauty for nothing).
Do exercise, those cheeks, jaws, and um and tums. Blood circulation with high intense workouts are good for your heart and skin!
Do drink water (goes without saying).
Do remove your make up before bed (even when you have been drinking).
Don’t stress (avoid those fine lines, a resting B face goes a long way, who knew).
Don’t use the wrong skin care products (know your skin type).
Don’t squeeze that spot (even if it grows like something out of ‘Men In Black’).
Don’t keep touching your face (keep the palette clean).
We may not be able to avoid sagging skin as it is a part of our aging process.
But there are preventive strategies and clinical solutions for tightening up your skin (facelifts).
The best bet for preventing sagging skin is to aim for a cumulative effect, meaning to focus on taking care of your skin as a lifestyle choice, including: quitting smoking, and adding sun protection to your product cabinet or bag.
